What type of dynamic platform should I buy?

There are 2 main types of dynamic platform:

  • Those based on motors coupled to mechanical gearboxes and operating dynamic levers with angle transmission to move the user's seat.

They are relatively unresponsive, often quite brutal, very noisy, often unstable in small movements and have limited travel. Moreover, the movements are not 'pure', as rotation is used to simulate translation.

On the other hand, they have the advantage of being more compact and less expensive for equivalent movements.

  • Those based on linear actuators, usually electric, are affordable to the public.

Depending on the design, they can be highly responsive, smooth, very precise, silent and have a wide range of travel.

On the other hand, they can sometimes take up more space and are more expensive. These are the platforms used in all the multi-million-euro professional simulators.
