Why opt for a dynamic platform?
A well-chosen dynamic simulation platform provides the ultimate level of simulation, offering an immersion and sensations that are incomparable with even the most realistic fixed platform.
Of course, it's impossible to reproduce a Cessna, an F1 or an F-16 in your garage, but a dynamic platform provides sensations that allow the pilot or driver to the simulation as realistically as possible today.
Examples
- When you're in your real car, you don't need to look at the speedometer to know whether the car is accelerating or braking hard or gently. Large travels for a platform mean you can not only feel it, but appreciate and feel every nuance of it.
- In your real Cessna, you round off and gently land your aircraft. It's the same with a dynamic platform, because you're going to feel that touch, and if you're not gentle at first, I can assure you that you'll be careful the second time around!
- As all F18 sim pilots know, you never know when you've hooked the arresting cable when you land. With a dynamic platform, not only will you feel the deck, but you'll also feel when you've hooked the cable...there's no doubt about it! Your whole body is a receiver of information, as it perceives even the finest variations in position, pressure, translation and/or rotation with various accelerations. Particularly in VR, where immersion and presence is intense because your visual field is encompassed by a virtual 3D world, you are all the more the sensitive to the lack of movement on a fixed platform.
Only after you have tried a dynamic platform can you discover the benefits of movement for the user.
